Abstract
In snakes, mean and maximal body sizes are influenced by habitats. Indeed, body size reflectsthe effects of food availability, climatic condition and longevity. Therefore, reporting unusual large bodysizes across the distribution area of snake species provides useful information. We report a record sizefor the Southern Smooth Snake (Coronella girondica) in Provence. Total body length of a male was 873mm. Body size is notoriously difficult to measure in snakes; therefore we used both manual (classical)and automatic (Snakemeasurer©) techniques.
