Msellati et al conducted a clinical trial to evaluate tolerance for and efficacy of zidovudine in the reduction of vertical transmission of HIV, in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire and Bobo-Dioulasso Burkina Faso. The obstacles to artifical feeding for HIV-infected women in Africa are discussed.
