Abstract
An influential Janus : Yves Piétrasanta. The decentralization laws, by modifying the institutional configuration of centre/periphery relations, brought changes in the interplay in local politics. This phenomenon brings into question the sociologie des organisations (organisational theory) defining the relation between the notable and the State. The analysis of Yves Pietrasanta's political career as mayor of Mèze (Hérault) and co-founder of Génération Ecologie explains how the authority of influential people is evolving. His transformed network (which is founded on a traditional base and political and administrative networks underwritten by ecological expertness) allows him to assert his legitimacy vis-à-vis the administrative and technical departments of the State. This two sided authority highlights the effects of institutional changes on local political practices.
