Abstract
The analysis of the 2022 presidential and legislative elections in Occitanie highlights the imperfect tripartism that characterizes the French party system: three forces dominate outrageously the electoral panorama, each being affected by internal tensions and the existence of residual forces, including those which still dominated the political landscape for ten years ago. In the first part of the article, we analyze the main characteristics of this electoral cycle in Occitanie and highlight its spatial and sociological dynamics. Using a geographical approach, we contextualize the production of votes based on our longitudinal observation of politics in this region. We also document a change affecting far-right voting, namely the transition from its local integration among the electorate, in significant progress for over thirty years, to its establishment as a legitimate actor of the political system. The establishment of the far-right party, the Rassemblement National (RN), can be observed in the attitudes of other political forces towards it and those of their electorates during the last two-round elections. In the second part, we present the results of an estimation of floating voters during legislative elections. These results help to understand the establishment of the RN as a significant pole of the French tripartism.
