Tradeoffs Between Environmental and Economic Impact of Agricultural Policies: Application to Agricultural Inputs

Univ of Bradford/Univ of Manchester Integrating Environ Assess and Socio-Econ Appraisal in the Dev Process Conf, Bradford, UK, Vol.2

Résumé

Econometric and mathematical approaches to modeling the tradeoffs between agricultural intensification to increase food production and adverse environmental impacts are introduced. A biophysical and an economic model are jointly applied in assessing tradeoffs of agricultural policies developed for vegetable farming in Thailand. Opportunities for reducing the environmental risk from pesticide usage without negatively impacting farmer revenues were identified.
