Abstract
Sebha is a small oasis town, whose population has grown from 1,000 in 1944 and 15,000 in 1996 to 100,000 today. The author uses it to illustrate deep-level changes occurring in the Libyan population, the mixing with immigrant African people, and the migrant flows which have generated medium-sized towns.
