Abstract
Bregin is considered as the emblematic grapevine variety of the city of Besançon since the 16th century. It was believed to have disappeared from the vineyards of Besançon. Specific research has enabled to locate a single vine of this grape variety. Genetic analysis identified it as Dureza, an old grape variety typical of the northern Côtes-Du-Rhône. This is the first time that this grape variety has been reported in Franche-Comté. This article proposes a reinterpretation of sources that mention the Bregin(s) varieties and the most plausible hypotheses regarding its identification (Dureza, Tressot and Enfariné grape varieties). Its introduction into the vineyards of Besançon is specified.
