Perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid are very efficient and are the best references in a variety of applications. However, they are bioaccumulable, toxic and persistent. These perfluorinated groups usually arise from the telomerization of tetrafluoroethylene. In this conference, instead of using tetrafluoroethylene telomers, the present strategy lies on the telomerization of vinylidene fluoride or 3,3,3-trifluoropropene with various chain transfer agents. The synthesis of different fluorinated cationic surfactants is presented, just like their low surface tensions, and their thermal and chemical stability.
