Résumé
This qualitative study explores the effect of nonmedical interventions (NMIs) on individuals living with cancer in France. It uses a temporal perspective and qualitative analysis to understand how it impacts those individuals at different points in their process. From the creation of a focus group made up of former individuals living with cancer, we analyzed the verbatim statements dealing with the use of NMIs over time. We first listed the type of NMIs mentioned and the interest associated with these NMIs in a temporal flow. We were able to observe that initially with the announcement of the diagnosis, individuals living with cancer find it difficult to use NMIs and then they choose them to not think and to experience moments of physical well-being. During the treatment, the INMs become a means of fighting to live better in everyday life as well as the illness. After the treatment, the INMs help the participants to historicize the different times of their encounter with the illness; this temporalization manifests itself through various levels of introspection.
