Synthesis of phosphonic acid analogue of KDO has been obtained by an efficient coupling of 2,3:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-D-mannitol triflate with lithiated diethyl formyl phosphonate anion equivalent followed by subsequent deprotecting steps.
