Summer shoot head back has been applied on apple bourse-shoots at the end of their maximum growth rate. The observation of the remaining buds provided information about the timing and stages of their reaction to the pruning. Pruning stimulated sylleptic shoots development mainly near the cut. Shoot organs formation preceded their outgrowth. During the following year, some of these shoots beared inflorescences in terminal position.
