Résumé

The Henderson Gneiss of North Carolina, just east of the Brevard shear zone, displays two successive stages of mylonitization under different metamorphic conditions. Analysis of shear-sense indicators suggests a southwestward transport direction for both events. Only the second deformation appears related to the Brevard fault; the earlier deformation is more pervasive and suggests tangential displacements parallel to the Appalachian structural trend along the subhorizontal mylonitic foliation.
