Drugs produce variable effects in different individuals. Many factors, physiological, pathological, environmental and genetic, are involved. Pharmacogenetics is the discipline that aims to identify the genetic factors of variability in drug response. Testing may be mandatory, particularly before prescribing certain treatments, or it may simply be recommended. It is important for pharmacy teams to be aware of them.
