Résumé
Online translators are tools whose apparent popularity among high school students often provokes strong reactions among foreign language teachers in France. The purpose of this research, which is based on a questionnaire survey with high school students, is to examine the frequency of usage and the perceptions of online translators by high school students and to analyze their declared practices so as to identify the educational issues raised by these tools for language teachers. The link between the use of online translators and the estimated level of the students will be analyzed. The study shows that these resources are often used for writing tasks for word revision purposes, which could reveal a lack of understanding of the way the tool works. According to the survey, high school students perceive a gap between their practices and their teachers' recommendations. Reflections on the integration of translators into the language course are proposed in conclusion.
