However, climate change—which has resulted in the modification of weather patterns and an increase in extreme weather events—affects vector-borne disease outbreaks and is likely to have both short- and long-term effects on their transmission and infection patterns, affecting seasonal risk and broad geographic changes in disease occurrence.
