Résumé
Rural youth face many constraints, including lack of access to productive resources. This has a negative impact on their involvement in farming and rural development. This article analyzes the strategies developed by rural youth in Morocco to deal with these constraints. We identified three main strategies: i) introducing technical innovation; ii) developing projects with public funding; and iii) becoming a leader in rural development. These strategies allow young people not only to adapt but also to assert their role in society, improve their autonomy, and gradually develop new sources of recognition. Implementing these strategies requires the mobilization of a number of resources. Encouragement for rural young people may thus involve the recognizing their role in agricultural and rural development by helping them to access resources (land, water, and financing) and supporting their strategies (e.g. by training).
