Abstract
The valley of Ouchettes at Plassay has yielded remains of Mesolithic, Early Neolithic and Final Neolithic occupations, sealed within a buried soil below almost a metre of colluvium. The main occupation is assigned to the end of the Early Neolithic. It is represented above all by somme 20 hearts, by a ceramic assemblage with clear southern affinities, and by a flake-based lithic industry. The burried soil shows traces of repeated cultivation. The opportunity is taken here to discuss the mechanisms involved in the Neolithic transition in West-Central France, and to define the characteristics of the different assemblages which can be assigned to the Early Neolithic "Centre-Atlantique".
