Abstract
In a context of an aging population, the quality of life and autonomy of older adults have drawn interest from public policies as well as research. To address the challenges arising from advancing age, the older individuals employ strategies of “déprise” such as adaptation, abandonment, and even rebound in daily activities, particularly in the area of physical activity (PA). Through thematic analysis of the discourses of 30 autonomous people aged over 60, this research, taken from a thesis, aims to expose the various triggers that prompt older adults to modify their physical practices. Thus, the six triggers identified can have different impacts on the practice of PA, with each person seeing opportunities or limits to commitment. This work opens avenues for reflection on how to improve people’s involvement in PA and adapt existing PA offers.
