Abstract
Comics are a mixed medium, in which words and images are combined to support a narrative or to transmit an information. Specific comics exist, written and drawn by sick persons about their care pathway, bearing witness of their experience of illness. These books can be of help in healthcare. Objectif :Understand sickness through the analysis of patients’ experience in French speaking autobiographic drawn pathographies.Methode : Exhaustive overview of french speaking comics about sick people’s personnal testimony. Phenomenologic qualitative of text and semiotic analysis of drawings.Results : 22 autobiographic comics have been included.They depict illness as a fight, a fatality or as an encounter. The authors tell their emotions and symptoms bound to illness, and anchor them in their everyday life that illness always affect. They highlight the important role of acceptance of sickness in the path of healing. Family and caregivers have a great part to play. Hospitalization and relationship with the medical staff are criticized and perceived as different as the patient’s expectations. Healing seems as complex path.Discussion :Our approach is linked to narrative medecine and patient centered clinical method. With this work, we hope to extend the use of comics in pedagogy and care, for students, doctors, caregivers and patients.
