Abstract
Visible landscape mapping is the technique used to map areas that can be viewed from one or more places. When the purpose is to determine the landscape that is visible from a route, viewshed maps can be used dynamically. On the waterfront of Nice on the French Riviera, the aim is to produce new information about the capacity of an area (the Promenade des Anglais) to "offer" landscape and seascape to view, thus contributing to the city’s fame. It is also an assessment of the capacity to enhance knowledge of landscape as it can be experienced by one observer and as it should be considered and managed by local authorities. This article presents an attempt at dynamic mapping of the visible environment that can be viewed by someone walking along the seashore in Nice.
