Abstract
Combining constructivist approaches and the framework of complex thought, this article aims to explore the digital realm as a technoscientific artifact, analyzing the paradigmatic transformations it introduces in the production, validation, and dissemination of knowledge. Digital technologies, at the core of the technoscientific ecosystem, are no longer confined to their role as tools but emerge as central actors in the dynamics between science, technology, and humanity. This research relies on a comparative analysis of the paradigms and methodologies inherent to two types of technoscientific artifacts. On the one hand, technologies of intelligence or symbolic AI represent a knowledge-aggregating instrumentation that supports human cognitive capacities through interpretable frameworks. On the other hand, intelligent technologies or connectionist AI are data-driven and prediction-based systems, often opaque and relying on self-learning mechanisms. The hybridization of symbolic and connectionist AI is proposed as a solution to reconcile technological power with ethical and reflective science, while preserving transparency, contextualization, and humanity.
