Résumé
Archaeological excavation lead before a motorway project allowed the description of a new loess and palaeosol sequence including four Palaeolithic levels at Savy (Northern France). Based on the correlation with the well-defined regional stratigraphy and new dating results (TL & combined ESR-U/Th), this record is allocated to the Upper Pleistocene (Eemian/Weichselian). In addition, these investigations provide the first regional date concerning the beginning of the Upper Pleniglacial loess deposition and of the underlying ice-wedge network (+ or -30 ka BP). Finally, this work allows to date the various Palaeolithic levels, and especially to evidence human occupation at the end of Lower Pleniglacial at ca. 55-50 ka BP.
