Abstract
Chemsex contraction of the words ‘‘chemicals’’ and ‘‘sex’’ refers to the use of psychoactive substances (PAS) in a sexual context. The use of PAS, particularly those from designer drugs family, before or during planned sexual events is intended to facilitate, enhance, prolong and maintain the sexual experience. Numerous events or complications have been associated with the practice of Chemsex, including deaths. We report here a series of 4 cases, 3 men and 1 woman, who died in the context of Chemsex. For 3 patients, the toxic process leading to death is poorly defined, but probably involves cardiovascular toxicity and neurotoxicity following consumption of synthetic cathinones in combination with other psychotropic substances. In the case of the last patient, ecstasy intoxication may have been the cause of death.
