Résumé
Family farming is at the heart of many challenges and opportunities. It is essential for fighting hunger, mitigating climate change, and leading agroecological and food transitions. Ten years after the International Year of Family Farming, the international seminar held in March 2025 in Porto Alegre provided an opportunity to discuss its strategic role and outline ways to strengthen it. This text summarizes and expands on the main analyses, consensus and recommendations that emerged from this meeting around four strategic themes for the future of family farming and agriculture in general: climate change, food and agroecological transition, generational renewal and the role of women and young people, and prospects for work and employment. Finally, recommendations are made for public policy and research.
