En Francia, el baile sigue siendo un ocio importante y próspero. Evoluciona, se renueva y se adapta. Pero su práctica cambia mucho según las regiones : más profunda en el cuarto suroeste del país, generalmente asociada a las comidas en la mitad norte, manteniendo orquestas en los cantones rurales, etcétera. Otras tantas diferencias relacionadas con las edades, urbanización y culturas antiguas. Dancing in France remains a significant form of leisure. It has adapted to new living conditions, with variations according to the different regions : dancing is most widespread in the south-west of the country whereas in the north it tends to take the shape of tea dances ; in rural areas bands are still in demand. Such differences are to do with age, cultural habits and urbanisation. Le bal reste en France un loisir majeur qui se porte bien. Il évolue, se rénove en s’adaptant. Mais sa pratique varie beaucoup selon les régions : plus profonde dans le quart sud-ouest du pays, plus souvent associée aux repas dans la moitié nord, conservant des orchestres dans les cantons ruraux, etc. Autant de différences à relier aux âges, à l’urbanisation, et à des cultures anciennes.
