Résumé
Within the framework of the “Central American Program for the Comprehensive Management of Coffee Rust (PROCAGICA), financed by the European Union and executed by IICA-CATIECIRAD- CAC in collaboration with the coffee institutions, CATIE has facilitated the process of strengthening of national and regional research and technology transfer platforms. This work synthesizes the progress and highlights the monitoring of coffee rust and its races carried out by the regional platform for monitoring rust, which is made up of 7 countries linked to the program, plus the inclusion of Mexico and Jamaica via the support of PROMECAFE. The objective of the platform is to maintain a communication link and constant monitoring of the research and training processes on the monitoring of rust and its races in the different countries of the region, as well as on comprehensive coffee plantation management strategies. Based on a first regional workshop, held at IHCAFE-Honduras and working meetings through virtual platforms, it has been possible to follow up on the agreements of a work plan, with regional activities defined with the countries, this in coordination with PROMECAFE, National Coffee Institutes and the UFV. There is a documentary database on the different activities underway. The platform maintains the information of the countries with their respective monitoring and research bulletins on rust, susceptible resistant/tolerant varieties, race indicator plants and the advancement of races in the region. The information that is generated flows in real time, through the WhatsApp platform and by email, where consultations with experts are carried out to support decision-making. This summary lists the progress of the platforms, especially the rust one, and results achieved to date. In addition, it proposes actions to be developed in the future.
