Abstract
This article describes three years of ethnographic fieldwork in a poor neighborhood in a medium-sized French city. The study focused on the experience of Muslim women during three moments of their life: medical care, their children’s nutrition at school, and education, demonstrating how a neighborhood can constitute a specific social organization, as contemporary Islam becomes an important framework for analysis and action for both residents and professionals.
