Abstract
Thanks to dynamic collaborations among farmers, technical experts and researchers, 6 study zones were established in which experiments aimed at controlling water vole outbreaks were carried out. These experiments furthered understanding of vole outbreaks, established baseline: data, and helped test and develop integrated control practices aimed at combating this rodent species. The study zones were located in Auvergne, Franche-Comte, and Brianconnais, and a detailed examination of what took place (e.g., project initiators; means of support and facilitation; experimental procedures; and interventions) reveals key factors that may prove useful in preventing water vole outbreaks. These factors include a high degree of motivation on the part of affected farmers, heightened awareness on the part of land managers dealing with the issue, and long-term facilitation efforts.
