Abstract
This article analyses the origins of the two main currents of environmentalism in Spain from the Franco dictatorship until the 1990s. On the one hand, traditional and conservationist movement, which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s to protect species and natural environments. On the other hand, we have the grassroot environmentalism or social ecologism, which arose from three move-ments that we analysed within environmental justice which unites the ecological and urban contexts with the reality of the rural communities affected. The environmental movement had many problems in creating a state federation and coordinating itself and green political ecology became a weak move-ment.
