Porous silicon nanovectors carrying gold nanoparticles and functionalized with mannose species as tumor targeting agents demonstrate remarkable capability as 2‐photon imaging contrast agents. An important photodynamic efficiency of the nanovectors is also observed in human breast cancer cells, with the formation of reactive oxygen species when exposed to two‐photon light excitation. Such targeted porous silicon/gold nanovectors provide an interesting opportunity for 2‐photon imaging and for photodynamic therapy, and an interesting potential for theranostic applications.
