Résumé

Geography Social Sciences
The study of cross-border cooperation is one of the central themes of political geography, particularly in territories where the historical evolution of the border has allowed for the development of shared economic and political interests. The case we propose to study within the framework of this research focuses on the French-Spanish border, specifically on the institutional and socio-economic relationship between the cities of Perpignan (France) and Figueres (Spain), as the main protagonists of the border's influence in the Roussillon plain and the Empord & agrave; region. Through 10 semi-structured interviews with political, technical, and scientific leaders, we provide a diagnosis of the relationship between the two cities, with the aim of identifying the main areas of cooperation, existing obstacles, and future possibilities within what is called the cross-border Catalan space. The main conclusion is that, although there have been significant advances in collaboration in cultural and tourism matters, cooperation remains, to this day, an area to be consolidated, in which administrations need to get involved with a focus on common strategic objectives.
