Abstract
Following widespread farmer protests across Europe in early 2024, the European Commission launched a Strategic Dialogue on the Future of European Agriculture. This note, prepared by the Working Group on European Policies impacting agriculture and food, of the French Academy of Agriculture, is a contribution to the process. It suggests the broad contours of a new approach, with increased focus on environment and climate issues, risk management and innovation systems. It also defines some general characteristics of the type of policy instruments that will be needed to meet the challenges.
