Résumé
Agenesis of the lateral maxillary incisors inevitably raises the problem of how to close or open/preserve spaces. To ensure an optimum functional and aesthetic outcome when missing teeth are replaced with a prosthesis, collaboration is needed between the orthodontic and the implantation phases of treatment. Good orthodontic technique, notably regarding control of the axes of adjacent teeth and occlusal function, will contribute to durable implant results.
Basal bone is a vital feature in implant restoration. When a tooth cannot be saved and needs to be extracted, the loss of alveolar bone gives rise to a bone defect which complicates, and even makes impossible the implant process due to the need for filling material. Orthodontic extraction offers an alternative therapy aimed at preserving bone stock.
