The association of wheat growers in France was born between the two world wars to defend the interests of large producers in the Paris basin, highly skilled and well inserted in the markets. These producers were able to engage in the operation of the wheat market (creation of cooperatives, institutions regulating the market) but also develop extension activities, after 1950, toward the less efficient producers in other regions. These elements combined with the establishment of a self-financing system has enabled them to exercise, within the general agricultural trade unionism, a significant influence on agricultural policies for several decades. The crises of agricultural policies since the 1980s calls into question past partially alliances within agricultural world: cereal growers tend to develop more targeted strategies.
