Résumé
was discovered in 2021 and has since been used mainly for CO 2 capture in humid environments. However, its extraordinary physicochemical properties are still not fully understood, especially its sorption selectivity. Although rising carbon dioxide concentrations are a global concern, the hydrophobicity of CALF-20 may prove useful for capturing harmful molecules such as VOCs. Here we show that CALF-20 has exhibits a high methanol/water selectivity at low relative humidity. The sorption isotherms of the pure components and the methanol-water mixtures were measured. The corresponding enthalpies of sorption were determined by microcalorimetry and confirmed by GCMC simulations (-33.4 kJ.mol and -63.8 kJ.mol for water and methanol, respectively), allowing the hydrophobicity of CALF-20 to be assessed. The sorption of water-methanol mixtures exhibited a high degree of similarity to that of pure methanol, regardless of the humidity. Unexpectedly, sorption kinetics revealed that water could fully remove methanol from CALF-20 while methanol could only remove 40 % of water. In addition, we demonstrated the formation of a confined metastable methanol/water adsorbed solution in CALF-20 with a density twice that of the pure components.
