Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that increasingly affects older patients and has major functional consequences for both patient and caregiver. Recent data on benefits of physical activity (PA) programs in these patients are encouraging and require further development.Objectives: to test the changes induced by an adapted PA program in PD patients on (1) home activity, (2) QoL, risk of falls, endurance capacity, pinch test and the level of dependency and dementia and (3) on the family caregiver burden and home activity.Material and methods: the APA group completed a physical activity program at home supervised by an APA teacher for 2 months. The control group did not benefit from adapted physical activity. The primary outcome was PA and number of steps measured by an accelerometer (SenseWear by HOMEAIR®) for one week at 3 months. Other outcomes were measured at 3 and 6 months.Results: there was no significant difference in the evolution of accelerometer data at 3 months. There was a strong correlation between patient performance and the Zarit score (6-minute test: r = -0.53; number of steps: r = -0.57; Tinetti test: r = -0.51) which measures the burden felt by the caregiver.Conclusion: we could not highlight significate difference on our primary outcomes: it’s a pilot study with the aim is exploration. However, we found a strong correlation between patients’ performance (endurance and balance) and caregiver burden, which is not described in literature. Further studies are necessary to support these results.
