Résumé
The OSCEs constitute 30% of the EDN grade. This new assessment method requires the development of adapted teaching through formative OSCEs. Few studies evaluate the impact of formative OSCEs among medical students. This study aimed to assess their impact on the skills of medical students. Method: this was a prospective pilot study carried out on 5th and 6th year medical students. Students participating in formative emergency medicine OSCEs were included. The results of their average self-assessment of skills were compared pre- and post-test. Results: 78 students were included. The pre-test mean of self-ratings was 5.4 [4.0; 6.8] and the post-test mean of self-ratings was 6.8 [5.6; 8.0]. The difference in average self-assessment of skills per specific item was significant each time. Conclusion: formative emergency medicine OSCEs allow students to improve their skills. The results encourage consideration of more in-depth studies evaluating the impact of OSCEs in current clinical practice.
