Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is a sudden and potentially serious event. Recognized risk factors of aneurysm rupture include smoking, high blood pressure, and alcohol consumption. This study aims to investigate the potential association between the prevalence of aSAH and meteorological conditions in our sanitary region. Several studies have presented contradictory findings, with results differing from one study to another and across different regions of the world. Materials and Methods: this retrospective, observational, single-center study investigated all patients admitted and treated for aSAH at the University Hospital of Montpellier between April 2018 and December 2022. We analyzed the correlation between the prevalence of aSAH and several meteorological factors, including precipitation, temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, humidity, sunshine duration, and storms, occurring within 24 hours and 7 days before symptom onset. We used a multivariate logistic regression. A 10-block cross-validation and a penalty lasso method were performed on a selection of variables. A second analysis of certain meteorological variables was conducted, comparing the values observed on the aSAH days with the average annual value. Results: based on a database of 492 patients, our study shows that a decrease in maximum and mean temperature and an increase in humidity on the day previous the onset are significantly associated with aSAH, as an increase in atmospheric pressure (above 1013,25 hPa) on the day of the event. Conclusion: aSAH appear to be associated with a decrease in temperature and an increase of humidity on the day before the event, as well with an increase in atmospheric pressure on the day of the event.
