Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a common disorder with varied clinicalexpressions and multiple impacts. Recent studies have shown that language deficits are oftenassociated with non-language deficits, especially executive ones. Since executive functions(EFs) are strongly related to language skills in typical development, the study of therelationships between these two fields of skills in children with DLD has interested manyresearchers. This is why we studied the relationship between EFs and the informativeness oforal discourse, a linguistic aspect with an important social role, in children with DLD. To dothis, we analyzed the performances of 42 children with DLD aged between 7 and 9 yearsold, on 4 executive tests and 1 oral narrative test, in order to assess executive processes andinformativeness. The results of the correlation test show a significant positive correlationbetween the inhibition score and the informativeness score, and between the cognitiveflexibility score and the informativeness score. However, no significant correlation wasobserved between the scores of the other executive processes and the score ofinformativeness. Therefore, our study confirms that there is a link between certain EFs andthe informativeness of oral discourse in children with DLD. These conclusions highlight theimportance of including an evaluation of EFs as part of an evaluation of oral language, andof offering EFs training in parallel with the rehabilitation of language aspects. However, ourresults do not allow us to specify the direction of the relationship between EFs andinformativeness, and invite future research to expand the study sample in order to be able tostudy the nature of this relationship.
