Résumé
Transgender people may have a follow-up by different health professionals, including speech therapists, and are often victims of abuse by the medical community. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and representations of speech therapists about trans identities in order to evaluate the needs for awareness and training in France. 724 speech therapists responded to a questionnaire containing 34 questions, in the form of multiple choice or open questions. The analysis of the numerical data, in conjunction with the analysis of the textual data, reveals a good acceptance of trans identities by the majority of speech therapists. However, they encounter difficulties because of a lack of awareness and relatively little theoretical knowledge that impacts their practice: better training of french speech therapists remains necessary for the quality of support for transgender people.
