Résumé

Consumption Psychoactive substances Screening Psychotropes Usage des drogues Médecins généralistes Détection d'abus de substances General practitioners
The health of healthcare professionals has long been an overlooked issue, particularly concerning private practice professions. While some studies focus on mental health, professional burnout, or exhaustion within this population, very few address the consumption of psychoactive substances, despite their significant impact on personal and interpersonal issues. Consequently, the use of psychoactive substances among general practitioners is often underestimated and poorly understood. This study aims to provide an overview of psychoactive substance consumption among general practitioners in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in 2023, using a questionnaire based on validated scales. Out of a sample of 3,335 doctors, 305 responses were collected, representing just under 10%. The results show alcohol misuse among 33 respondents (17.36%) and probable alcohol use disorder in 13 of them (6.84%); active smoking was reported by 36 individuals (13.9%), and cannabis use was declared by 37 doctors (14.2%) with a significant risk level for 10 of them (27%). Additionally, 20 individuals (7,72%) reported using nitrous oxide, 14 (5,4%) amphetamines, 23 (8,88%) anxiolytics, and 12 (4,63%) cocaine, with a significant risk level for 5 of them (13.5%) across all these substances. Polyconsumption represents 20.46% of users and is associated with higher levels of risk. Furthermore, significant associations were identified between the level of risk from substance use and factors such as work-related stress, feelings of isolation, and medical or psychological issues. Thus, this study highlights a major public health issue affecting general practitioners in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Concrete actions should be considered to improve the prevention, screening, and management of addiction and misuse in this population.
