Résumé
Background: in France, medical night shifts can be stressful for interns who are responsible for overseeing around 80-200 medical beds with a random on-call home medicine attending. Our hypothesis is that implementing the first Boot Camp, designed and conducted by residents specifically for interns, will enhance the comfort level during their initial night calls and contribute to their overall well-being.Methods: this study analyzed three groups: the Case group included residents who attended the Boot Camp, the Control group included French residents outside Montpellier University who attended the Boot Camp, and the Before group included residents of Montpellier University before the establishment of the Boot Camp. The primary endpoint was to assess the unique Comfort Score of the Case group compared to the combined Control and Before groups. Secondary endpoints included the Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE), the Brief Resident Wellness Profile (BRWP), and the Seven Mood Faces (SMF). Sensitivity analyses and multivariate analyses were also conducted. Additionally, a focus group was organized to gather feedback and enhance the program. Results: two hundred fifty-five interns attended the Boot Camp. Among them, 135 interns had already performed night calls, and out of those, 79 answered the survey and fonned the Case group. The Control group consisted of 174 residents, and the Before group had 48 residents. The median values of the Comfort Score were 4.0 and 2.0, respectively, in patients in the Case group compared to the combined groups (p< 0.001). The benefit in the Comfort Score was confirmed by sensitivity and multivariate analyses (p< 0.001). The median values of the Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale were 28.0 and 24.0, the Brief Resident Wellness Profile 21.0 and 19.0, and the Seven Mood Faces 5.0 and 4.0 for the Case group compared to the Control group (p< 0.001). Data for the Before group were not available. Conclusion: the Boot Camp has significantly improved the comfort levels of interns during their first night calls and enhanced their overall well-being scores.
