Language, communication and feeding are essential aspects of a child overall development and are in that respect considered as key Public Health issues. Speech therapists are incented to intervene at an early stage, early intervention being recognized as having a positive impact on children developmental pathway in terms of language, communication or feeding outcomes. Detecting potential difficulties at an early stage appears to be the first step in child care. Child care givers in community centers are therefore intended to play a major role at this stage. This study aims at assessing the current situation in 35 child care centers in the department of Herault by examining the representations and knowledges that child care workers have to participate in early detection. Specific needs have been identified that concerns the notion of sensitive period, communication prerequisites, age span and early detection signs. Along with this study, a statistical analysis has validated the global benefit of primary prevention actions using two leaflets developed by associations of speech therapist “Objectif Langage” and“Signes d’appel”. The impact of this action is increased in groups where the intervention is done on site with an oral presentation of the leaflets.
