Résumé
Background: young children have access to a wide range of screen devices. This period of life determines their development milestones. An early exposure might be harmful. There are many recommendations but they are not strictly followed. This study aims to explore the parental representations about screen time of their young children under 3 years-old. The secondary objectives are to figure out if there is a need for a screen time campaign for parents and if so, adjust this campaign. Methods: semi structured interviews are applied in this qualitative study, with the interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results: 12 interviews have been conducted. Parents consider screen devices not only as an educational tool but also as a parenting one. They are informed and fully aware of the negative consequences. They control their children's exposure because it’s a part of their responsibilities. But they show a permanent ambivalence in their use. Their own experiences and their social values determine their usage. Conclusion: nowadays screen time is part of parenting. The awareness campaigns are well known among parents. The content can be improved and personalized. The parents support seems essential to promote a healthy use.
