As adults with early Alzheimer’s are younger than 65 years of age, teenagers and young adults often become caregivers. Several studies show that young caregivers need support and help in order to be able to understand the disease and communicate with their ill parent. It’s relevant, as a speech pathologist, to want to support them in this task. The aim of this master’s thesis is to create an accompanying protocol for the benefit of speech therapists so as to help young caregivers who take care of parents diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s. We assumed that the young caregiver felt like being more integrated in his parent’s speech therapy. To this end, we created and disseminated a questionnaire for young caregivers. The results allowed us to confirm this hypothesis: young caregivers wish to take a more active part in the management of their parent. In view of young caregivers’ different needs, we decided to create a drive gathering various information for young caregivers but also for speech therapists. Indeed, information and support from the family caregiver are favorable for the good coordination of health care and prevention of the disease complications.
