Résumé
The pharmacist as a health professional plays a major role in the management of musculoskeletal injuries in athletes by providing appropriate advice on pain management, inflammation reduction, prevention of complications and nutrition. Because of his accessibility, he is often called upon to administer and/or advise first aid to athletes. The pharmacist must first rule out signs of seriousness (cracking during the injury, significant edema, total functional impotence, bone pain) requiring the patient to be referred to another specialist or an emergency service. If the pharmacist is competent to manage the injury, he can offer a wide range of medication. Indeed, he has analgesic, antiinflammatory, orthopedic, phytotherapy, homeopathy and oligotherapy treatments for which he is able to remind the principles of good use (dosage, method of taking, major contraindications) in order to promote healing and avoid undesirable effects. Nutritional advice for the prevention of sports injuries is also an aspect of the pharmacist's field of expertise.
