Résumé
The padel player evolves in a restricted and atypical environment for a racquet sport. The experiment allowed us to observe pathologies until then unknown in other sports like tennis or badminton. Our objective was to highlight the pathologies of the padel player occurring with his close game environment. In a second step, the analysis focused on the frequency of injuries related to each element of the environment, the severity of the pathologies and their need for care. Method: quantitative pilot study based on the collection of data by a self-questionnaire carried out on the Internet among padel players in the Hérault region. Results: 324 questionnaires were analyzed. 91 women and 231 men responded for an average age of 41.44 years. 55 different traumatic pathologies for a total of 673 injuries were collected. Focused on common and not very precise pathologies, we also found unusual pathologies such as partial ruptures of the posterior cruciate ligament, acromioclavicular sprains or elbow fractures and dislocations. Numerous ocular and craniofacial traumas and some testicular traumas have also been described. Secondly, we note that the surface of the padel court is the element with which the most players have suffered a traumatic pathology: 197 injuries or 41.67% of pathologies. Finally, there seems to be a statistically significant difference between the male and female groups concerning the pathologies with the nets and posts and with the paddle racket. Conclusion: this work has revealed many traumatic pathologies of the padel player, some of them being more surprising than others. The secondary analyses allow the establishment of multiple problems, ignored until now.
