Résumé

Training Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Cardiac arrest Coeur -- Réanimation Arrêt cardiaque Médecins généralistes Enseignement médical Premiers secours First aid General practice
In France, training in first aid, particularly cardiopulmonary resuscitation, remains inadequate, with a direct impact on the survival rate from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. This study explores the factors influencing access to cardiopulmonary resuscitation training in the Hérault region, and secondly, the potential role of the general practitioner in this process. Method: a qualitative study based on semi-directed interviews was carried out with the major population of Hérault. A thematic analysis of the verbatims was carried out until data saturation was reached. Results: twelve interviews revealed a general lack of interest in first aid, insufficient awareness and limited access to training. Participants suggested that first aid training should be stepped up in schools and workplaces and raised the possibility of making it mandatory. They also recommended to raise the awareness among the general public and to offer free, brief and regularly renewed training courses. The role of the general practitioner, although secondary, could be enhanced by posters and advice during consultations. Conclusion: current efforts to improve access to first aid training are insufficient. Reinforcing school-based training would appear to be a key area for improvement. A simplified approach could facilitate access to training for the general public, while reducing costs. Drawing inspiration from international projects could also help strengthen and optimize existing strategies.
