Résumé
The present thesis explores the benefits of mindfulness meditation on the quality of life of patients with chronic pain. Chronic pain is a major public health issue that affects individuals physical and psychological wellbeing. Mindfulness meditation can provide benefits to individuals with chronic pain by helping them refocus on the present moment, reduce anticipatory anxiety related to pain, and explore pleasant sensations outside the painful area. The practice of mindfulness also allows for the acceptance of thoughts and emotions related to pain in a non-reactive manner and helps avoid mental rumination. In this project, an experiment of mindfulness meditation was conducted with six patients suffering from chronic pain in a healthcare setting. Although this experiment is not a comprehensive scientific study due to the small number of participants and the absence of a control group, it allowed for the observation of the potential effects of meditation on patients' quality of life. The results obtained show that 34% of patients observed little or no benefit in terms of quality of life, while 66% of patients expressed various advantages, including overall improvement in their quality of life, positive effects on their physical and psychological health, reduction in chronic pain facilitating daily activities, and a decrease in negative feelings such as fatigue, despair, anxiety, and depression.
