The depressive disorder is a common pathology. It manifests as a depressive mood, with a loss of ability to experience pleasure or interest. The pathology can appear regardless of age, sex, life conditions, and events. According to the WHO, it affects 25% of the world's population. In recent years, the prevalence of this pathology has been increasing, making it a public health issue. Depending on the intensity of the pathology, treatment options will differ. Therapeutic strategies include non-drug treatments (psychotherapies and other techniques) as well as drug treatments (antidepressants and adjuncts). Since the 1950s, antidepressants have been developed. Currently, numerous therapeutic classes offer a diversity of treatment options adapted to the patient. SSRIs are nowadays the most commonly used class, thanks to their effectiveness and safety. Innovations in antidepressants are paving the way for new therapies, such as ketamine, which has recently received marketing authorization. Patient adherence in depressive disorders, as in any pathology, is a crucial factor. Poor adherence can be linked to various factors such as a lack of understanding of the pathology, missed doses, or disabling side effects. This is where the pharmacist's role becomes significant. They are one of the healthcare professionals who will be most in contact with the patient. They can help the patient understand their treatment and provide advice to manage side effects and missed doses through strategies. The pharmacist will listen to their patient and offer advice to improve adherence.
